Chrysalis is the latest residential project by architect Pavlos Chatziangelidis of 314 Architecture Studio whose design is inspired by the wings of the butterfly and has as its main objectives the concepts of transparency and privacy.

Chrysalis has been awarded a 2022 International Architecture Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.

Chatziangelidis’ project consists of four independent residences, with each one including both a basement and a top floor.

The wing volumes are used to provide the ground floor with shade and also privacy as they are bent.

While generating open terraces on the top floor, where occupants can enjoy uthe nobstructed view of the sea in addition, the wings are bent to provide privacy.

The architect has chosen U-glass to replace or even cover solid walls to allow the maximum natural light to permeate the interior and at the same time to serve as a distorting filter as it blurs the movement of the occupants, adding to the dwelling’s privacy.

The materials used are promoting the contrasting nature of the development, the glossy U-glass meets the matte white cement stucco which is used for walls, floors, and ceilings.

Around the residential complex, the studio has used rocks in order to add some roughness and an earthy element to the whole composition which is complemented by artificial lakes in organic shapes and a lot of greenery creating a feeling of seclusion and peace.
