The internet was left stunned after a man "sabotaged" the chances of his ex getting a job in a new viral social media post.

Published on Reddit's r/AmITheA**hole forum, a man under the anonymous username u/Glass-Vase7099 shared his story to get feedback from the "AITA" community. The popular post has over 5,000 upvotes and 600 comments.

The original poster (OP) began his story by explaining that he has been married to his wife for about a year. However, she has an ex-husband named "Joseph" with whom they share custody of their 15-year-old daughter, "Mia." The Redditor said that Joe likes to start drama within the family. He likes to start arguments and blame it on the OP.

He wrote that his wife has been trying to find a job and when she got a good opportunity, it resulted in her getting disqualified due to her "husband" calling them and saying she had various "issues."

The OP wrote, "She came and yelled at me accusing me if sabotaging her career and trying to control her while ruining her reputation. I swore that I had nothing to do with it but she said the company said that her husband contacted them. they refused to reveal his contact info. I figured it was Joseph especially when he hinted about it.

"He'd usually call to brag after causing an issue and making me the bad guy. I didn't wait for his call I called him myself, put him on speaker and had my wife listen. I lured him into confessing/ and bragging about impersonating me and ruining the opportunity for my wife. My wife was furious she left and there was a huge argument at his house," he continued.

He called the OP saying that he "set him up" and how his ex "won't get off his back" which also resulted in Mia not talking to him as well. He also told the OP he should have "minded his own business" and how he "invaded his privacy."

Newsweek has published several articles regarding conflicts in relationships including a husband who was praised for "publicly humiliating" his wife on social media. In another, the internet supported a woman for being in a relationship with her brother's ex, and a woman was praised online for dumping a man after nine years as his kids won't accept her.

Defamation is the act of communicating to a third party false statements about a person that results in damage to that person's reputation, as defined by Britannica. Libel and slander are legal subcategories of defamation. Libel is defamation that is written or broadcast while slander is spoken defamation.

According to kppblaw.com, these are the five elements of a defamation lawsuit:

You can start a defamation claim by meeting with a lawyer and showing them the proof, per alllaw.com. If the lawyer believes a person has a viable case, the next step would be to file a defamation complaint and the defendant would be served with a lawsuit. The plaintiff and defendant will answer questions under oath called a deposition. Negotiation soon begins after the depositions to see if they can reach an agreement, if not, the case goes to trial.

U/LetThemEatHay asked, receiving the top comment of over 10,000 upvotes, "[Not the a**hole], but I have to ask... knowing how her ex is, why did she immediately think it was you and not him f**king with her. And has she genuinely apologized?"

"[Not the a**hole]. HE'S mad at YOU? Frankly, I would go to the police, and then to a lawyer - impersonating someone, sabotage, this is beyond conflict or 'pranks' and needs to be shut down RIGHT NOW," u/Straight-Singer-2912 said.

"[Not the a**hole] and your wife might want to talk to a lawyer. Sounds like defamation to me," u/HPNerd44 commented.

"[Not the a**hole]. He is only mad at you because he got caught. He is p**sed that you are 'invading his privacy,' when the only person who is invading anyone's privacy is Joseph. I don't know why he is surprised that his actions have consequences. In the future, I would advise both you and your wife to alert your employers and even Mia's school about Joseph and that he is known to call and make up lies," u/joywaveee warned the OP.
