The Little Falls Public Library, supported by funding from The Central New York Arts Council, will offer two En Plein Air Workshops this fall.

The first, a drawing and pen and ink workshop by RC Oster, will be instructed on Wednesday, September 21st, with a rain date of September 28th, at 10 a.m. and include an instructional presentation on technique and drawing of architectural structures, followed by drawing and guided instruction focused on the landscape and architectural structures around Eastern Park.

Mr. Oster specializes in ink drawings of nature scenes and architectural landmarks and is known for his highly detailed illustrations of old homes, mills, farms, and barns from the Tug Hill to the Southern Tier, as well as numerous scenes from the Adirondacks.

Mr. Oster has always been intrigued by the level of sculptural detail to be found in older buildings and is especially fond of their corbelling and brackets. His work can be seen at art shows throughout the region, including the Remsen Barn Festival of the Arts and the Chenango Colorscape Festival in Norwich.

The second workshop, instructed by artist Deborah Kaufman, will be held on Saturday, October 8th, with a rain date of October 22nd, at 9 a.m. and begin with an instructional presentation that includes a brief orientation and history of En Plein Air as well as the tools and techniques, followed by a guided painting session in Eastern Park.

Ms. Kaufman is a landscape artist primarily focused on Adirondack scenes that inform the color, texture, tone, and lighting of work that was initially inspired by a childhood spent at her grandparents’ camp at Spruce Lake and skillfully uses color and light to create mood, intimacy, and vibrancy. Later influences included the landscape artists of the 19th century Impressionist Movement.

Ms. Kaufman’s artistic experience includes work in architectural glass that has been featured in homes in Galveston and Houston, Texas. Her artistic perspective on art history and artistic approaches using a variety of materials and mediums was expanded as the owner of art galleries in Elgin and Galveston, Texas.

Ms. Kaufman has demonstrated painting techniques at Little Falls Presence at Cana Place since 2019. Her work has been featured at The Little Falls Art Walk, the Juried Art Exhibit at the Frederick Remington Art Museum, and was the 2017 Artist of the Year at the Dolgeville Violet Festival. She will be participating in the MVCA Holiday Show from December 1st through the 24th.

Class sizes for both workshops are limited, and pre-registration is required. Participation is free of charge, and all materials will be supplied. To register, contact the library at (315) 823-1542 or stop in at 10 Waverly Place.

This program is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by CNY Arts.
